A Client-Centered Approach
Kathy Arneson, LCSW
INDIVIDUAL & FAMILY THERAPIST
I know starting therapy can be a daunting task. It is a brave decision to open up and trust others to help. I continue to believe that it is an honor to be trusted with other people’s problems, fears, dreams and desires. I received my Bachelor of Science in psychological services from Northwestern University and went on to obtain my Masters in Social Work from University of Illinois at Chicago.
I have been a therapist for over 20 years and work with both children and adults. Although my techniques are different based on age, to me building a therapeutic alliance is of utmost importance. Without a trusting relationship, it’s challenging for change to happen. I work with a lot of clients who are managing anxiety and depression. They are often navigating life changes and relationship difficulties. I work collaboratively to establish goals with clients. While I believe gaining insight into your patterns of behavior, relationship styles and family dynamics is important, I also incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques as well to manage intense emotions. Additionally, I utilize an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy framework to help clients increase self-awareness and recognize what’s important to them so they can live a meaningful, valued driven life.
